For that reason and in order to ensure our good health it is important to reduce them, something we can achieve by making changes in our diet and becoming a little more active. Fried food

Fried foods, especially those that have been prepared in butter, margarine, sunflower or maize oil, are harmful to people with high triglyceride levels and increasing the risk of complications to heart conditions. Therefore it is recommended to completely eliminate the following food from your diet:

  • All kinds of meat, fish and vegetables that are fried or breaded.
  • Fried snacks such as crisps, cheese sticks, etc.

The recommendation is to opt for healthier cooking methods like grilling, baking or steaming and choosing fruit or low-fat products to consume as snacks instead of high calorie snacks.

Food with saturated fats

Foods with saturated fats should be minimized in the diet of patients with high triglycerides, as these greatly contribute to raising their levels and harm your health. So you should moderate your intake of:

  • High-fat meats like steak, bacon, amongst others. The recommendation is to always eat lean meats.
  • All kinds of sausages except those made from turkey or chicken. Those high in fat such as sausages, cured meats or pies should be eliminated or minimized.
  • Junk food and foods rich in trans fat should also be removed from the diet.
  • Whole milk and its derivatives such as cheese.
  • Butters, margarines and oils such as sunflower or maize. Only olive oil in small quantities is allowed.

It is best to eat healthy food and increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Refined sugar and sweets

Sweets full of refined sugar and bakery products are generally harmful to our bodies, this is why they are the foods that increase triglycerides the most, due to the fat content in the products. The recommendation is to eliminate all industrial rolls and doughnuts, pastries, croissants, plus biscuits and sweets with high sugar content.

Replacing refined sugar with brown sugar is also a timely solution. If you want to eat something sweet it is best to eat fruits or very small amounts of black chocolate with at least 70% cocoa.

Food rich in starch

There are several vegetables that are very rich in starch such as peas or sweetcorn. Other foods that contain starch are potato, pasta and cereal.

There's no need to get rid of them if you have high levels of triglycerides but you should lower the intake of these foods.
