Could You Be Pregnant?

The most probable scenario in case of a 2 day period could be that you are in fact pregnant. Notice the color of discharge, is it brownish or pinkish in color? Is the bleeding more like spotting rather than a full fledged period? Does the period “feel” different than your regular ones? Do you normally have more than 2 day periods? If the answer is yes, then it could be a sign of bleeding due to implantation. It means that the fertilized egg has attached itself to the uterus wall and this is just a spotting incident. You can look for other signs in order to confirm your doubts, like morning sickness, sore breasts, fatigue, more frequent need to urinate. A pregnancy test is almost always a sure shot way to confirm pregnancy.

Why A Two Day Period?

Some women do in fact experience two day periods in certain circumstances. We cannot call these circumstances “normal” as they fall outside of the regular range and are caused due to fluctuating Estrogen levels. For example, use of certain contraceptives like IUD (Intra Utrine Device) or other oral and injectable ones, have been reported to cause fluctuating estrogen levels. Estrogen level imbalance can cause really short and irregular periods.

Pre-menopausal women also go through short periods due to the similar estrogen level inconsistencies. You can check the rest of the symptoms to know how menopause starts.

Should You Be Concerned?

Menstrual Cycles tend to be indicators of a woman’s hormonal health. Sudden shifts in estrogen levels, especially, will have a direct impact on her monthly cycles. Consequently, any variation over and above your normal range needs attention. Apart from a pregnancy test, check for other causes like, over use of contraceptives, abrupt weight loss, rise in stress and extreme physical exertion; all of which cause estrogen imbalances in women.
