Glaucoma is common in patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension. This is because the increased levels of blood glucose and high blood pressure also increase eye pressure. Following a proper diet is very important if you have high eye pressure. The key is to lower your insuline levels, as if these rise it causes blood pressure to increase.

Therefore it is recommended:

  • Reduce consumption of fats and fried foods. Pastries, sweets and junk food should be kept to a minimum.
  • Reduce the level of salt in meals. A low-salt diet will help you maintain controlled blood and eye pressure.
  • Add to your diet green leafy vegetables like spinach and broccoli and also fruits. These are very beneficial because of their vitamin and antioxidant content. Foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots, must not be missing from your meals as they help to maintain the health of our eyes.
  • Avoid stimulants such as coffee, alcohol or soda; due to their ingredients such beverages increase eye pressure and may aggravate the problem.
  • Eat foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin E and omega-3 products as these nutrients strengthen the optic nerves, reducing the deterioration caused by this condition.

Dangerous and incorrect information in this article. Do not fool with this blinding condition, people. See a glaucoma specialist and use approved drops or surgery. This is NOT a condition you want to take lightly and experiment with unproven half baked alternative medicine nonsense.

Enjoyed the articles. Was researching caffeine and eye pressure. Interesting.

Alcohol is a depressant, not a stimulant.

Most of what you say my wife has been doing for the past 15 years. Although she uses "cosopt, xalatan and alphagan purite" eye drops she is now virtually blind in the left eye and the ophthalmologist just told her that she will also lose the sight of her right eye. He just did cataract surgery (22/09/2016) on the right eye and the eye pressure went up from 20 to 30. He is now talking about Glaucoma surgery - I am concerned. I am not sure that surgery is going to reduce the pressure. Please, Please help and suggest something to prevent that eye from deteriorating. God bless you.

Glaucoma surgery is the final step in treatment for this disease, and is usually only recommended after other treatments have failed. However, there are many different types including laser surgery which might be able to help reduce IOP (itraocular pressure). As we stipulate, this article is merely informative, so talking over all possible treatments with your physician is the best course of action in these difficult situations.
Hope this helps
