The first tip to raise your self-esteem is to stop comparing yourself to others. It may not seem like it, but everyone has problems, insecurities and inner demons with which they must fight every day. If your friend has a better job than you, or your colleague is prettier than you, if life has not been easy: none of it matters! You don't know enough about any of these people to be comparing your life to theirs. Work towards your own inner happiness, and stop comparing yourself to others.

Having low self-esteem can lead us to a state of total disinterest. A thousand tricks to raise self-esteem will be useless if we do not have the courage or willingness to make changes. The first step to boosting your self esteem is to recognize that your problem is not that you're an awful, incompetent person, but simply that you have low self esteem. Once you recognize that the problem is in your self confidence, you can take steps to boosting it.

One trick to raise self-esteem is to reflect upon your strengths and weaknesses. Make a list of all your strengths and weaknesses. Make sure that you have as many strengths as weaknesses. If you have trouble listing strengths, ask those around you. Often, others are better at naming strengths of those with low self confidence.

Ask yourself: what is holding you back from being the person you want to be? Usually, people with low self-esteem realise that the answer to this question is nothing. What holds you back is fear of what you think you are, fear of rejection, fear of a second bad experience in love, fear of deception... But, fortunately, fear can not live for us, fear is just a word and the more we repeat it the smaller and more harmless it becomes. Then, work on thinking positive and raising your spirits, and tell yourself that nothing can stop you.

You have to start believing in yourself, and the best way is to value who you are and showing that you can do it. To accomplish this, find an activity you have always wanted to do and have not dared to take on or to take control of your life once and for all. Working hard towards learning a language or being the best in yoga class will allow you to be proud of yourself and realise that you can handle more.

Make yourself your own priority. People with low self-esteem are usually constantly trying to seek approval from others. If this sounds like you, you should try to place some of that energy towards pleasing yourself. Stop putting yourself in second place, especially to those who are not grateful.

Stop thinking so much about yourself. Every one of us has issues and qualities that we would love to be free of. The trick to getting by despite those quirks is by not focusing on them too much, especially if it is something that we can't improve. Work on accepting yourself, flaws and all, and just let it be.

If you feel you have tried everything and no trick to raise your self-esteem seems to help, then it is time to seek help with a health specialist. Psychologists and psychiatrists can help determine the root of the condition and offer personalised tools to work on improving your self esteem.
