What to do if the cramp becomes intolerable
If you frequently have cramps during pregnancy you need to contact a doctor immediately, especially if the pain is constant and not like any other occasional cramp. Severe cramp may also indicate ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, preterm labor, placental abruption or any other serious problem. If you see redness, tenderness or swelling in your muscle, or if you feel heat when you touch the area, then they may indicate a blood clot, and you may need immediate medical intervention. Blood clotting is rare, but is more likely to happen during pregnancy.
