Aerobic exercises

It has been proved that aerobic exercise reduces the overall cholesterol levels in our blood, especially LDL cholesterol, more commonly known as bad cholesterol. They also help to increase levels of HDL or good cholesterol. For more information, see our article what is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol.

What are aerobic exercises?

These are ones that especially need oxygen during their performance due to their intensity, and are the opposite of anaerobic exercise. In general, everyday tasks can be considered aerobic.

Wide-ranging and feasible

Aerobic exercises are numerous and very feasible as you don't need to be particularly fit to begin doing them. So, you can do exercises such as walking, jogging, swimming, dancing and cycling. As you can see, you don't need to go to a gym or have equipment.

No great effort

Scientific studies have shown that even when we do aerobic exercises for short periods, we will still reap the benefits in reducing our bad cholesterol. So, although we won't lose weight through walking or swimming because we don't do it too often, we know that this activity is still beneficial to our health anyway.

How much is enough?

If you haven't done exercise for a long time, the best thing to do is to start gradually. Start with a lighter exercise for ten to twenty minutes each day and gradually increase your chosen exercise to 30 minutes per day.

If you feel the benefits from this exercise after a couple of weeks and want to increase the effort, try exercising for 60 minutes once a week.

Make sure you get into the routine of practising exercise, schedule when you're going to do it and try to find someone to do this activity with, as it will make the activity more enjoyable.

Also visit your doctor regularly to make sure your blood pressure is optimum.
