You'll need:
  • Honey
  • Ph neutral soap
  • Syringe
  • Hydropolymer dressing
Steps to follow:
1

One of the most important benefits of honey is its ability to accelerate healing of the skin due to its antiseptic and antibiotic properties, making it an excellent option to stop wounds and injuries becoming infected. This is because honey contains glucose oxidase, a substance that helps healing and prevents tissue damage following injury.

In addition to promoting proper healing, honey also gives vitamins and nutrients to damaged skin, helping to power an appropriate restoration and resulting in less visible marks.

Although using honey in healing is a common natural remedy, it is important to understand that this should not be applied to deep wounds or burns nor in lesions with stitches. If applied in a significantly infected area it will be necessary to accompany the treatment with some more potent antibiotic to prevent an advance in the infection.

Wounds and scabs where it is possible to use honey to heal are:

  • Shallow or superficial burns, as it will help heal the skin and reduce the appearance of scars.
  • Shallow wounds in people with a weakened immune system due to treatments to cure cancer or conditions that weaken the immune system such as HIV.
  • Ulcers caused by friction or pressure. It can also be applied to superficial wounds that produce odour, as honey will help eliminate the smell and improve the appearance of the wound.
4

To use honey to heal the first thing to do is to thoroughly clean the wound with pH neutral soap and water, then dry the area gently removing all moisture. Apply the honey directly on the wound, preferably using a needleless syringe. It is important that when applying we leave a zone free of honey for the injury breathe properly.

Then just put on a hydropolymer dressing, sold in any drug store. This is a type of dressing that has a layer of foam that helps absorb fluids expelled by the wound.

5

This treatment with honey should be applied once a day until the wound heals enough. Remember it is important not to apply honey on a wound which is too deep or a serious injury, in these cases is imperative to consult a doctor.
