Of the many non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) available on the market, Diclofenac is the most common. It is used primarily for the treatment of inflammation and muscle pain. It is often used in posttraumatic and postoperative illnesses. This drug should always be prescribed by a doctor and the patient should always know exactly how to use diclofenac tablets for correct and effective treatment.

Steps to follow:
1

Contraindications of diclofenac. First, you should not use Diclofenac under any of the following circumstances:

  • Allergy to Diclofenac Sodium preparation, other ingredients in the tablets or similar substances such as aspirin.
  • You have or have had stomach or duodenal bleeding, ulcers or perforation of the digestive system from taking NSAIDs.
  • You suffer from an inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • You have any liver or kidney disease.
  • You have a coagulation disorder.
  • You suffer from severe heart failure.
  • Women in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Also, you should inform your doctor if you are being treated with other medications that may interact with Diclofenac.

2

When to take it. Diclofenac should preferably be taken before meals or on an empty stomach, as it can decrease food absorption. It is also recommended that you dissolve a tablet in a glass of water and drink once thinned. If any residues remain in the glass, add more water and drink again.

3

Recommended dosage. The recommended dose of Diclofenac is around one tablet to be taken two or three times a day for adults. However, always follow the recommendation of your doctor as the strength of tablets can vary considerably.

4

Usage for children. For children over fourteen years old (prescribing Diclofenac is not recommend for children under this age) or for a milder dose for adults, two tablets a day are normally administered. Remember never to exceed the recommend daily dose advised by your doctor.

5

How long to take diclofenac. With regards to length of treatment, talk to your doctor for expert advice as this will vary according to the individual and the severity of your problem.

If you miss a Diclofenac dose, once you have remembered you should have taken it, do so. If it is already less than two hours before the next dose, simply skip it.

6

In the event of an allergic reaction. If you notice symptoms of allergy such as itching, sneezing, limb numbing or swelling or chest pain, do not use diclofenac any longer and contact your doctor as soon as possible so he or she can vary your treatment.

You may also notice several side effects, which include excess gas, nausea, sickness, dizziness, excess sweating, high blood pressure and swelling. Contact your doctor too if you notice any of the aforementioned.
