How To Remove Lice And Nits From Hair - Home Remedies

When going back to school, the heads of the little ones often suffer the attack of lice. It is very common and should not alert parents, but they must be vigilant to get rid of them as soon as possible to avoid contagion to other children. In any pharmacy you can find effective treatments that will help, but for health and wellbeing, home remedies work equally fast and won't hurt the little ones. At OneHowTo we explain some home remedies to remove lice and nits from hair.

Steps to follow:

You can go to a pharmacy and buy a shampoo or remedy for lice and nits that is natural and doesn't contain pesticides. Better yet, in some herbal shops, they will give you the right solution: a shampoo or cream for hair that works against these bugs that are always made from foods or completely natural products, which can be a very good choice.

But, if you prefer, you can also create your own shampoo to remove the smallest lice and nits. One of the formulas you can get is made from a tea of eucalyptus leaves. You can find it in any herbal shop. Put water on to boil, add them and let it stand. When the water is not too hot, put on the infected head and massage the hair thoroughly. Apply to the roots.

Another equally effective infusion that can kill lice and nits is the rosemary infusion. Maybe you have a pot of rosemary at home, which you can create your infusion with. In herbalists, florists, etc. you can get a pot or branch and create your infusion. Follow the same steps as in the previous case.

You can also remove lice and nits naturally by apply lavender oil to the affected head. You can find it at any herbalist, but make sure that it is pure lavender oil, unmixed. Apply at the roots, massage head well (wear gloves if you apply it with your hands).

Apple cider vinegar is sufficiently aggressive to these microscopic bodies to eliminate them. This remedy is much more effective against nits or lice eggs. Note that if there are many grown-up lice, it may not be 100% effective, but can be applied as a start and you can see the effect it has. Mix warm water and vinegar in equal parts and always apply to dry hair.

Many aromatic oils can help remove lice and nits from hair, which are killed by these fragrances: coconut oil, jasmine, anise, geranium, and so on. They are easy to find and apply, and much less damaging to the scalp than any other chemical product.

Always remember rinse your head after using one of these products. Use a tooth comb. If necessary, apply some conditioner before, and comb slowly from the root. You'll see how any remaining lice or nits, if there are any, are removed with the comb.

It's important that, once you have removed the lice and nits from your head, you learn some tricks to avoid these creatures from appearing again. Keeping your hair hygiene under control is fundamental to keep your scalp clean, that's why you should wash and comb your hair at least every 2 days so it's clean and healthy.

It's also recommendable not to share hair utensils with other people, as you could easily spread the infestation to someone else. Therefore, hair bands, brushes, combs or any element that is in contact with your hair should be of personal use only. Take a look at our article to learn how to prevent body lice.
