How to Relax Your Jaw

A bit of tension is what makes you strive to improve, but excessive levels of stress cause negative effects on both a mental and physical level. Regarding the latter, some people clench their jaw and teeth too tightly, causing your teeth to wear off and tension in the jaw. These are problems that you should discuss with your doctor, but at OneHowTo we give some exercises so you can learn how to relax your jaw.

To relax the jaw the thing to do is to perform various movements that you don't do naturally, but that will allow the area to decrease tension. Begin with a lateral movement of the jaw to the right. To do this, try and move your mouth to that side. At first, you'll find this movement a bit difficult but with practice you'll find it more natural. Do it 10 times.

2

Then the next exercise you should do is the same but to the left, with the same number of repetitions. Don't force the movement and stop if you notice excessive pain. It can help to put a finger on the right side of the jaw, which makes the weight move to the left.

3

Another exercise to relax the jaw is to leave your mouth half-open and move your bottom teeth forwards 15 times. By not having your mouth completely shut, you will relax the muscles affected by stress. Don't force the movement, in the sense that it should not hurt you, or at least not cause you more pain than the strained jaw is already causing you.

4

Then after a few minutes of rest, do the following exercise which is same as above but in reverse, i.e., moving your bottom teeth backwards. Begin, as in the previous case, with your mouth half-open and stop if it causes too much pain. Do it 15 times.

5

To finish, open your mouth as far as you can and close it, about 10 times. To avoid any injuries, all the exercises that we have recommended to relax your jaw should be done slowly and with a few minutes of rest between each one.
