How to Feed a Baby Chia Seeds
As soon as your baby starts eating, you want to add as much nutrition to your baby’s diet as possible. Babies (unsurprizingly) do not eat vast amounts in one go, so you need to ensure that the little amount which they do eat is a nutritious as possible. Chia seeds are considered a superfood and one especially good for babies. They are laden with proteins, antioxidants, dietary fiber and unsaturated omega 3 fatty acids, all of which work together to bring the best in nutrition and growth to your little one. Some ways of adding chia seeds to a baby’s diet
There are several ways of adding chia seeds to a baby’s diet. Some good examples include:
- Adding chia seeds to yoghurt, rice and fruit purées
- Using them as an alternative to eggs. You can add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in 3 table spoons of warm water and let it sit until thickens. This mixture can be easily substituted for eggs and has a similar consistency as well
- Adding them to smoothies and other baby drinks. Chia seeds will also give denser consistency to the drink when mixed in
- Adding a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds to baked baby foods, like breads and muffins
- Sprinkle a few soaked chia seeds on cereals which are suitable for infants
- Mixing some into energy bars and granola bars suitable for infants
Make a chia seeds and blueberry jam
Soak blueberries in a solution of water and vinegar and then rinse thoroughly. Blend blueberries in a food processor until smooth or until they reach your desired consistency. Transfer this purée to a container, add chia seeds to it, along with cinnamon, water and honey. Mix well, refrigerate and let it sit until the chia seeds double in size.
Make a raspberry chia chocolate pudding
Combine chia seeds with Greek yoghurt, coconut milk, maple syrup and vanilla, set aside for 2 hours until the chia seeds triple in size. Soak raspberries in a solution of vinegar and water. Scoop the chia pudding into a small bowl, top with raspberries and garnish with chocolate flakes. Set in fridge, allowing the flavors to combine. Make several layers the same way with the rest of the ingredients.
Make chia seed and coconut muffins
Preheat your oven. Whisk eggs until frothy, then add Greek yoghurt, honey and vanilla extract to it. Mix in all-purpose flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, chia seeds, coconut flakes, ground flax and sea salt to it, and mix well with a wooden spoon. Line liners in a muffin tin and dollop into the liners. Bake for 10 minutes until baked completely. Remove from oven and serve. Spread a little extra virgin coconut oil on the top for extra flavor.
Make a peach, banana and chia smoothie
This smoothie is made by mixing 2 ripe peaches, 2 bananas, 1 tbsp chia seeds, unsweetened coconut milk and 1 tbsp raw honey. Mix all ingredients in a blender and make a smooth purée. Keep adding a little coconut milk until you achieve the desired consistency. Add chia seeds and serve after the seeds have soaked an enlarged a little.
