Before Meditation

The Transcendental Meditation is usually taught by a certified TM teacher. 15 days before starting on TM, it is required to refrain from using non-prescription drugs. Pay the course fees and enroll under a certified TM practitioner. This technique is taught in private groups.

The Initiation

Before initiation a personal instruction session is held for 1 – 2 hours to learn the basics of trascendental meditation. In this session the students are required to bring a clean handkerchief, fruits, flowers and their course fees.

Then the initiation begins with Puja. The puja ceremony is performed by a teacher. The puja is done to show respect and gratitude to the lineage of TM masters. This ceremony is done in a private room. The initiates watch the teacher recite texts in Sanskrit. After the puja ceremony the initiates are invited to bow and receive their mantras.

Teaching Session

After personal training instruction, the teaching sessions of 90 to 120 minutes for the students begin. These sessions are done for three consecutive days. These three days are known as three days of checking. This is what you do during these three days:

  • On the first day of the checking you will meet the whole group that participates. On this day information is given about the correct practice which is based on each student's own experience.
  • On the second day the same group format is used and in this session more detailed information about the practice is given. Also the potential results are told. Both these things are based on student's experience.
  • On the third day, focus is shifted on subjective growth and potential development of higher stages of human consciousness. Then the outline of the follow up program is told.
