Most women have at one point or another suffered the effects of vaginal thrush or yeast infection. It is a vaginal infection caused by overgrowth of the common fungus Candida. When thrush develops, the most common symptoms that appear are: thick and excessive vaginal discharge, itching and irritation around the entrance of the vagina, a burning sensation when urinating and pain during sex. To treat this type of infection you will need to use a specific treatment. At OneHowto we show you how to cure vaginal thrush or a yeast infection.

Steps to follow:
1

If you experience the symptoms of a yeast infection, you will need to see your doctor. By taking and examining a swab sample, your doctor will determine whether or not you have thrush. It is very important to visit a medical specialist to determine what is the most appropriate treatment to cure this yeast infection and to rule out the possibility of having other infections such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis or chlamydia which can have similar symptoms.

2

To cure thrush, we normally use antifungal medication to stop the growth of Candida in the vagina. These drugs can be administered either orally or by applying directly into the vagina or onto the areas affected by Candida.

  • Oral treatment consists of capsules or tablets.
  • Direct treatment may be in the form of an ovule that is introduced directly into the vagina in the same way as a suppository, or by applying an anti-fungal cream that is specifically an anti-thrush cream to the vagina's entrance.
3

It is important to follow the instructions for use carefully for these drugs and complete the course of treatment to cure this vaginal infection.

4

While normally these medicines cure the symptoms of thrush, for many people this treatment doesn't work and this infection will reoccur. When this happens, you must see your specialist again, since you most likely will need another treatment to cure the infection altogether, such as taking another medication for 14 days or another oral intensive antifungal medication.

5

It is also important to note that using this type of medication when you don't need to, can cause the infection to reoccur more persistently, which is more difficult to cure. Hence why it is so important to see your doctor and follow the right treatment to cure thrush.

6

If you are prone to developing yeast infections, there are a number of measures you can include as part of your daily routine to prevent infection. Here are a few preventative measures to take to avoid recurring yeast infections:
