The conjunctiva is the tissue over the eye that protects the eyeball from bacteria and infection. To find out how to clean eyes infected with conjunctivitis, the first thing you should do is buy certain hygiene products that you'll need. You will need:
- Gauze
- Saline solution
- Boiled water
Next, before you clean eyes infected with conjunctivitis, you should thoroughly wash your hands. If you can, use a mild, unperfumed soap that will remove all residues without leaving any trace on your skin.
To clean eyes infected with conjunctivitis boil some water and, once boiled, soak two pieces of gauze in it. Make sure that the water is not too hot as it might burn your skin. Carefully wipe the gauze over the eye and clean away any debris. It's best to go from the tear duct to the outermost part of the eye in order to get rid of all the impurities.
Once you've cleaned each eye with a separate piece of gauze, get two more pieces and wet them with saline solution. Apply the gauze over the eyes, gently massaging the inner area of the eye, near the tear duct, to remove any secretions that may have accumulated in this area.

To finish cleaning eyes infected with conjunctivitis, take a few more pieces of gauze and wipe them over the infected eye to remove excess moisture and dry the area. If you repeat this procedure three times a day (morning, noon and night) you will clear up your conjunctivitis quicker and take away some of the painfulness associated with this infection.
Remember that conjunctivitis is highly contagious so you should be very careful. Never use the same towel to dry both your eyes because the infection could be transmitted from one eye to the other continuously. Also, make sure that no one else uses your towel.
