Steps to follow:

1

First, note that styes are actually contagious, although some people claim otherwise. That is why we must carry out certain preventive actions in order to prevent the spread of styes so people who live together are not also affected.

2

Thus, when performing the relevant cures to try eliminate stye, we will always use a sterile and single use gauze, instead of cloths, towels or handkerchiefs.

If you are prone to styes, apply a compress for five to ten minutes every day before going to bed.

3

It will also be essential to wash hands thoroughly before and after touching the eyes to prevent infection causing the stye, to proliferate or worsen. One of the main causes of styes is directly related to hygiene.

There are special wipes for people who often have blepharitits, ie. flaky eyelids; you'll find these at most shops. Clean your eyelids with these wipes in order to avoid getting styes.

4

At the same time, when we have a stye, use towels for exclusive use, i.e. not share with anyone else to prevent infection. It will also be necessary to properly wash them to remove all traces of eye infection.

5

Also, makeup is not recommended when suffering from a stye and do not share cosmetics such as mascara, eyeliner, etc. to prevent the spread of stye. If you want to avoid getting a stye, never go to bed with your make up on, as leaving it on can cause clogging of pores.

6

Keep taking these measures for some time even if you think the stye has disappeared, because infection may still be there and will be contagious. You cannot predict or calculate exactly, but on OneHowTo we explain more about how long a stye lasts.

7

If you are prone to having styes, you should know that stress can also cause styes, so keep calm during stressful periods such as exams, work due dates and other personal and stressful situations.

The quickest way to get rid of a stye is with antibiotics, in combination with chamomile tea. Visit your doctor to get a prescription for the appropriate medicine.
It is not recommended to wear makeup over a stye, as this may make the infection worse.

Hope this helps.
