In chemistry classes we have read that Sulfur is of atomic number 16 in the periodic table. Sulfur along with being a natural element is a very essential and basic building block of human body. It helps in keeping our digestive system healthy along with maintaining youthful skin. In the Victorian period, sulfur water was extremely popular as they believed that it could cure many aliments. Eggs

Besides being rich in protein, eggs also has high sulfur content. The white portion of egg contains a lot more sulfur than the yolk. While the yolk only contains 0.016 milligram of sulfur, the albumen i.e. the white part contains 0.195 milligram.

You can consume egg in any form you like but having raw or poached egg will ensure that you get maximum amount of sulfur.

Seeds and Nuts

Seeds and nuts such as flax seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pistachios and macadamia nuts have high sulfur content. Also, they have a good amount of amino acids which is essential for a healthy body.

Garlic

Garlic has very high sulfur content. During cooking, it is advised that garlic should be chopped or crushed and left to sit for some time before using it for cooking. The sitting time activates those enzymes which produce sulfur compounds like ailiin and allicin.

Onion

Just like garlic, onion too contains high concentration of sulfur. Raw onions are much higher in sulfur than the cooked onion. Due to their high sulfur content of raw onions, people are advised to apply raw onion paste or juice on their scalp when they have dandruff.

Cruciferous vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as kale, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi and others have abundant sulfur containing glucosinolates. This gives the distinctive taste and aroma of these vegetables. They also contain lots of other vitamins, nutrients and fibers which are very good for the health of the human body.

Meats

We all know chicken, pork, rabbit, goat and turkey meats are rich source of protein. But along with protein they are very high in sulfur too which is found in the amino acids. One to two serving of meat can provide enough sulfur for a day.

Other foods

Fruits such as avocado, bananas, strawberries, pineapple and coconut have high sulfur content.

Milk and other dairy products like cheese and sour cream are rich in sulfur too.
